Nielsen Merksamer to Host Voting Rights Webinar on February 22
Join Us for a Webinar on Voting Rights in California
(California MCLE Application Pending - 1 hour general education credit)
February 22, 2013
11:00 a.m. PST
Please join us on February 22, as two of Nielsen Merksamer's leading voting rights experts, Marguerite Leoni and Chris Skinnell, discuss the current state of voting rights and redistricting law in California. Topics to be discussed will include:
- Recent developments under the California Voting Rights Act;
- New issues raised, and lessons learned, from the 2011 round of redistricting;
- The language requirements of Section 203 of the federal Voting Rights Act; and
- The continuing role of Section 5 of the federal Voting Rights Act and the constitutional challenge to that provision, now pending in the U.S. Supreme Court (Shelby County, Ala. v. Holder).
Instructions for connecting to the Webinar are below.
Ms. Leoni heads the firm's redistricting and voting rights practice. Mr. Skinnell works closely with Marguerite and brings to the practice, in addition to his knowledge of redistricting law, knowledge of the GIS systems and databases fundamental to redistricting and voting rights analysis. In 2011-12 alone, Marguerite and Chris advised over 100 public entities on all aspects of the redistricting process and state and federal voting rights law.
We ask that each participant complete an MCLE Evaluation Form and submit it via e-mail to Keri Harmon at kharmon@nmgovlaw.com.
