Marguerite Leoni is a partner specializing in law and civil litigation relating to elections, redistricting and voting rights questions, school district reorganization law, campaign, government and initiative/referendum law including appellate practice and extraordinary writ proceedings.
Ms. Leoni is a nationally renowned redistricting and voting rights expert and is one of few California attorneys with expertise in administrative preclearance practice before the United States Department of Justice under Section 5 of the Federal Voting Rights Act and Section 5 enforcement litigation. She also has years of experience in the law and practical considerations surrounding local elections and the drafting and qualifying of local initiative/referendum petitions and associated litigation. Ms. Leoni is also a specialist in school district reorganization.
Ms. Leoni graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned both Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Italian with a minor degree in Spanish. She received her law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. She was invited to be a member of the Hastings Law Journal on the basis of academic achievement and was an associate managing editor of the Hastings Law Journal. She has been a guest lecturer on the Voting Rights Act at Hastings College of the Law and guest speaker at numerous forums concerning voting rights and election issues.
